Nigeria solidifies position as regional powerhouse in private capital investment

Nigeria has emerged as a dominant force in West Africa’s private capital landscape, securing $3 billion in deals between 2020 and 2024. According to the African Private Capital Association (AVCA), this figure represents 66% of all deal volume and 52% of total deal value in the region.

This achievement underscores Nigeria’s attractiveness to global and local investors, driven by its youthful population, growing digital economy, and opportunities in fintech, infrastructure, healthcare, renewable energy, and agribusiness. Reforms aimed at improving the business environment and macroeconomic stability have also bolstered investor confidence.

AVCA CEO Abi Mustapha-Maduakor highlighted the significance of hosting the 21st yearly AVCA conference and VC summit in Lagos, themed “Bold Moves: Powering 10x in Africa”. The event brings together over 130 high-level participants to exchange strategies and unlock long-term capital flows.

Temi Popoola, Group CEO of the Nigerian Exchange Group, noted, “As Nigeria pushes to deepen its capital markets and broaden investment participation, this conference reinforces how public exchanges can serve as structured exit routes and catalysts for unlocking private equity value.”
