Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) of the Nigerian Army have reportedly arrested 18 serving soldiers and 15 police officers for allegedly supplying weaponry to terrorists and other criminal elements.
This was revealed by Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, the Theatre Commander, in an address to reporters in Maiduguri regarding the actions of troops in the northeast.
Operation Snowball was initiated in August 2024 to target ammunition racketeering in the theater, according to the Theater Commander, who spoke through Major Ademola Owolana, his Staff Officer, Administration.
According to Major Owolana, the exercise was carried out in eleven states, and suspects were taken into custody in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Ebonyi, Enugu, Lagos, Plateau, Kaduna, Rivers, and Taraba.
He stated that eight civilians and one traditional ruler were also arrested including one Ameh Raphael, an armourer of the 7th Division Garrison, who has been indulging in the act since 2018 and had N45 million in his bank account.
He further claimed that Seidi Adamu of the 3rd division ordinance services, who has likewise been in the trade since 2022, has N34 million in his bank account.
Enoch Ngwa, a police inspector who was arrested for arms racketeering, had N135 million in his bank account, he added, according to the investigation.
