The Nigerian government has started disbursing payments to contractors handling projects under various federal ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), following growing concerns and public outcry.

Bawa Mokwa, spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), confirmed the development in an exclusive interview on Monday.

This action comes after contractors working on federal projects had gone unpaid for over a year.

In June 2025, Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi, representing Bauchi Senatorial District, raised concerns over the federal government’s failure to settle outstanding payments to contractors since 2024.

More recently, Obi Aguocha, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Monitoring and Evaluation, urged the federal government to urgently address the backlog owed to its contractors.

Responding to inquiries, Mokwa stated that a resolution had been reached between government authorities and the contractors.

He also confirmed that disbursements had already commenced, following a meeting held the previous Wednesday between government representatives and the affected parties.

“We had a meeting with the contractors on Wednesday; resolutions were arrived at.

“Payment to contractors has begun; it will be continued,” he said
