A Nigerian pilgrim known as Hajiya Zainab, who hails from Plateau State, has returned a lost sum of $5,000 equivalent to over eight million naira to a Russian pilgrim during the Hajj in Makkah.
The incident occurred after Zainab had concluded her prayers at the Grand Mosque, Masjidul Haram. Upon discovering the money, she chose not to keep it but instead informed the relevant authorities immediately.
Officials from both the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and the Saudi Arabian government worked together to locate the rightful owner of the cash.
Hon. Daiyabu Dauda, the Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Pilgrims Board, verified the incident and praised Zainab for her honorable deed.
“She demonstrated exceptional integrity and honesty. What she did is a remarkable act of kindness that many will find difficult to do,” Dauda said.
NAHCON also applauded her actions, describing them as a true reflection of the moral standards and upright behavior expected from Nigerian pilgrims during the holy pilgrimage.
