A 38-year-old businesswoman has told the tragic and unsettling tale of how her husband, whom she provided financial support for for almost two years, allegedly planned to poison her to death in order to seize her properties, leaving her with only a few months to live and a six-month-old infant to care for.

In an emotive account that has stunned many Nigerians, the woman—who is currently fighting fatal liver damage—opened up about her experience.

She claims that she met her husband when he was well-off, had a car, and had a successful electronics company. He pushed that they create a family as soon as possible because he was getting close to 50, and they were married in less than six months. She was excited to start a family at the age of 36.

She had no idea that the marriage would turn out to be one of her worst decisions.

She already had three large wholesale stores, three homes, two cars, and a number of employees before getting married. Despite her success, she was determined to assist her husband as the head of the household, so after the wedding she moved into a rented apartment.

However, his company failed in a matter of months.

She invested about ₦3 million to bring his electronics store back to life. When that didn’t work, she supported his parents, paid their rent, paid all of their expenses, sponsored two of his siblings for college, and even gave his extended family a monthly allowance.

He persuaded her to move into one of her homes “to save money” when things got worse, and she accepted.

Later on, he begged to work for her company so he could “learn from her.” She gave him access to suppliers, contacts, and trade secrets, took him to her stores every day, and eventually helped him create a brand-new store that she paid for entirely out of her own cash.

The betrayal started at that point.

She claims that when his store opened, he began lowering rates to entice her clients away by offering a ₦100,000 item for ₦99,000 or even ₦97,000.

Her company failed.

Eventually, in order to make ends meet while pregnant, she had to sell one of her stores.

Her husband started a new campaign after she gave birth to their baby, persuading her to give him all of her belongings “for their child’s inheritance and family stability.”

He provided three compelling arguments:

The boy’s inheritance would be safeguarded in his father’s name in the event that she perished.

To be eligible for large company loans, he had to have assets in his name.

He needed to be “seen” as the real owner of the family house because he was a man.

She accepted in an effort to support her spouse and safeguard her son’s future.

Everything was autographed by her.

When she went back to work six months after giving baby, she started having unexplained nosebleeds and excruciating stomach pain. She was taken to the hospital after collapsing.

She was informed the heartbreaking truth by doctors:

She had serious damage to her liver.

It was incurable.

Her life expectancy was fewer than seven months.
The medical study stated that chronic poisoning was the cause.
She didn’t speak to her husband or family because she was afraid of the worst. Rather, she set up covert cameras throughout their home.

Her worries were validated.

The video showed their nanny, who had only been hired a few months prior, gradually incorporating drugs into her nightly meals on a daily basis.

The nanny sobbed and said that her husband had hired her expressly to poison his wife when questioned.

According to reports, he informed the nanny that if his wife passed away, everything would legally belong to him and their child, making him “the rightful owner” of her belongings.

Both the husband and the nanny have now been taken into custody by the police.

According to reports, the spouse is sobbing and pleading for pardon, saying he “made a terrible mistake.”

She claims that her worry regarding her baby boy’s destiny is more painful than her husband’s infidelity.

“I won’t be around to raise my son,” she cried. “Who will protect him? His father—who owns everything now—is in jail. I don’t know if I should regret giving him everything. I don’t know what to feel.”

She claims to be emotionally spent, bewildered, and devastated.

The attempted murder, conspiracy, and property acquisition reasons are still being investigated by police.

Women’s rights organizations have also demanded justice and more robust legal safeguards for wealthy women who are subjected to domestic greed, coercive control, and manipulation.

The tragic case has spurred a national dialogue on marital exploitation, trust, and the risks faced by women who give their partners financial authority.
