When filling out the DS-160 form, visa applicants are expected to fully disclose their social media past by the US Mission in Nigeria.
The Mission emphasized that applicants must disclose all usernames or handles used on any platform within the last five years in a tweet sent on its official X handle.
The DS-160 visa application form must include the social media handles or usernames.
Additionally, the Mission stated that before submitting their visa application, applicants must attest that the data they have entered is accurate and truthful.
The Mission cautioned in the Monday 18th August 2025, tweet that failing to include this information could jeopardize future chances to visit the US.
It also cautioned that entries that were deceptive or incomplete would not be ignored.
“Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used from the last 5 years on the DS-160 visa application form.
“Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true and correct before they sign and submit. Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas,” parts of the directive read.
