According to philanthropist, politician, and film producer Prince Tonye Princewill, fewer Nigerians are prepared to make sacrifices for their nation because they believe it is unwilling to do so.

Princewill stated in an interview on Arise TV that he frequently advises young people that having a deep passion for Nigeria is one of the requirements for working with him.

“I used to say to them, one of the qualities you need to have to work with me is that you have to be ready to die for Nigeria,” he said.

“But compared to 2007 until now, the number of those who are preparing to die for Nigeria is becoming fewer and fewer.”

According to him, the reason for this growing disengagement is that a lot of young people think their leaders don’t give a damn about them.

“They see that the country is not prepared to die for them, the leaders are not prepared to die for them,” he added. “It’s very unfortunate.”

Princewill also criticized Nigerian politics, stating that it is difficult to find anything motivating in the current political environment.

He attributed the nation’s disastrous direction to the absence of new, morally driven leadership.

“Our politics is very unfortunate and nothing to be proud of. We need new blood, fresh blood in the system and we are not getting a lot of that unfortunately.”

He emphasized the need of political leaders having distinct beliefs and philosophies and cautioned that the system will not change in the absence of this.

“I always say politics is too important to be left to politicians,” he said.
