Nnamdi Kanu victim of false imprisonment – Lawyer Ejimakor

A statement was made on Thursday by Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel to IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, stating that the agitator is a victim of unjust detention.

Ejimakor complained that Kanu’s trial, which would have given him a chance to clear his name, is being denied by the Nigerian government.

Speaking following his usual meeting with Kanu at the Department of State Services, DSS, headquarters in Abuja, Ejimakor lamented the court’s incapacity to determine when Kanu’s trial will resume.

“Sequel to the Legal Team’s meeting with #MNK today, it needs to be stated that, without any date set for his trial, he remains a victim of false imprisonment by the Nigerian State,” Ejimakor wrote in a chat shared with ZINGTIE.

“The new game is that he’s being denied a trial that will accord him the avenue to clear his name.”

The ruling of an Appeal Court, which had cleared Kanu of all terrorism-related charges, was overturned by the Supreme Court in 2023.

According to the ZINGTIE, the Supreme Court denied a request to free the imprisoned IPOB leader from custody.

In a decision authored by Justice Garba Lawal and delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim, the Supreme Court reversed the October 2022 Appeal Court decision, clearing Kanu of all terrorism-related charges.

The Supreme Court decided that even though Kanu was forcibly removed from Kenya by the Nigerian government, this illegal action did not prevent any court from moving forward with a trial.

Kanu’s terrorism trial had been ordered to resume at the Federal High Court in Abuja by the court.

The Federal High Court’s resumption of his trial has not yet been scheduled.
