Citing internal problems within his old party, Representative Yusuf Galambi has formally defected from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
During Thursday’s plenary session in Abuja, Speaker of the House Tajudeen Abbas read Galambi’s letter of defection and greeted the lawmaker, who represents Jigawa State’s Gwaram Federal Constituency, as a new member of the APC. Abbas also exhorted the ruling party’s members to welcome their new comrade.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), there has been a new wave of defections in the National Assembly, with a number of members defecting from opposition parties to the APC.
Rep. Salisu Koko, who represents the Koko-Besse/Maiyama Federal Constituency in Kebbi State, and Rep. Amos Magaji, who represents the Zangon Kataf Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, recently defected to the ruling African National Congress (APC) from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The increasing pattern of defections demonstrates how the political climate in Nigeria’s legislature is changing as the APC maintains its majority.
