No vacancy in National Working Committee, APC tells Yahaya Bello

On Tuesday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) said that there isn’t a single opening in the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

The party released the explanation after strategically placed posters endorsing Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi state, for the role of National Chairman appeared throughout the capital on Monday.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Morka, briefed journalists on the resolutions passed at the 141st meeting of the NWC and advised individuals who were posting such posters to stop right once.

He stated: “There is no vacancy in the office of the National Chairman. Our National Chairman remains the Chairman. This is democracy, people do what they want. We have total confidence in the leadership of the party. Those who are pasting these papers around should desist from doing so.”

Morka also criticised the Plateau State House of Assembly Speaker for refusing to confirm 16 APC members who the Court of Appeal had determined were legitimately elected legislators.

He noted that the Speaker and the state governor’s intransigence in the matter was incorrect, undemocratic, and blatantly disrespectful of the Court of Appeal’s jurisdiction—the highest court for deciding election petition cases involving the House of Assembly.

In order to maintain peace, the ruling party requested that the Plateau State House of Assembly Speaker appoint the new members right away.

Morka emphasised that even if the Speaker disagrees with the court’s ruling, he is forced to act morally.

The party’s official in Niger State would spearhead the updating of its membership roster, the spokesperson disclosed.

He added that the report of the NWC’s high-level Reconciliation and Intervention Delegation to the APC Diaspora Chapter in the United Kingdom has been fully endorsed by the NWC.

According to the spokeswoman, the NWC also approved the formation of the Chapter’s Interim Executive Committee, which will be headed by Hon. Joseph Adebola as secretary and Hon. Tunde Doherty as chairman.
