NOA raises fresh alarm every Nigerian should be careful about

The propagation of hate speech and fake news has once again been cited by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) as a key threat to national prosperity and peace.

Such nasty patterns, according to the agency, might incite hatred in both the grassroots and the broader society. The agency lamented the fact that many news consumers in the nation did not verify stories before adopting or spreading them.

This was said by Mrs. Regina Iroha, State Director of the Abia State Directorate of NOA, while leading her management team on a courtesy visit to the palace of Eze Sunday Kalu Okpi, the traditional ruler of the Ovukwu Abam autonomous community in Arochukwu LGA.

According to Mrs. Iroha, the NOA serves as a vital conduit between the federal government and the people of Nigeria. She asked all communities to work towards and uphold peace and to stay clear of any disinformation that might hinder progress.

The traditional ruler and his cabinet were notified by the Director that NOA had been visiting significant stakeholders with the goal of creating a people of peace.

In order to prevent conflict and animosity in society, she asked everyone to continually double-check the accuracy of any information or fact-check any news article that might contain false information.

His Royal Highness Eze Sunday Kalu Okpi, the traditional ruler of the Ovukwu Abam autonomous community, responded by praising the crucial role that NOA has played in bringing the government and the people—especially those in the hinterlands.

He lamented the detrimental impacts of hate speech and fake news and pledged to raise his subjects’ awareness of the issues.
