Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has empowered female creatives with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in Nigeria’s entertainment industry. Speaking at a training session with the theme ‘The Creative Blueprint’ in Lagos on Friday, Akindele emphasised the importance of perseverance and self-improvement in achieving success.

“As a creative person aspiring to be successful, you need to know that if you have a purpose, you should know your time will come. Another thing is to know that at some point in your journey in the creative industry, you will face pain, challenges, and struggles,” Akindele said.

She noted that the creative industry can be challenging, but it is essential to use those challenges as opportunities for growth. “In my case, I use my pain to build what I have become today. In the course of all my initial struggles, I accepted all the constructive criticism. I read all the comments from the blogs. I pick the truth out of the lot and use it to my own advantage.”

Akindele advised the participants to focus on creating value rather than chasing financial gains. “As creatives in whatever field, learn to multiply the impact of whatever positive thing you are doing as a creative, and money will come. Don’t chase money; just focus on creating, developing, and building yourself, and the money will come.”

She concluded by emphasising the importance of resilience and hard work. “Your struggles should not define you. It is how you rise from your struggles that should define you. Just remember where you are coming from and continue to work hard in your business.”

Also speaking at the event, singer Waje (Aituaje Iruobe) stressed that talent alone is not enough to guarantee success in the entertainment industry. “You must invest in yourself,” she said, warning musicians against selling their masters.

Waje advised the participants to engage the services of intellectual property lawyers before signing any contract. Her words of wisdom provided valuable insights for the female creatives in attendance, empowering them to take control of their careers and make informed decisions
