On Wednesday, June 11, Leadership Newspaper revealed that the League of Northern Democrats (LND) has delivered a stern caution to opposition figures like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi. The organization warned that if their failure to present a united political front leads to President Bola Tinubu securing a second term in 2027, they will be held accountable.
Dr. Ladan Salihu, who serves as the LND’s spokesperson, criticized the opposition for prioritizing individual ambitions over the shared objective of removing the All Progressives Congress (APC) from power. He pointed out that personal interests have hindered any real collaborative effort.
“Nigerians will hold the opposition responsible if Tinubu emerges victorious again. The 2023 elections showed the PDP and LP together gained 63% of the vote, so failure to come together now would betray the public’s confidence.”
Salihu pointed out that the public is paying close attention and will either applaud the opposition’s success or criticize their disunity. “The hardship Nigerians are enduring is intense, and citizens expect their leaders to prioritize the national interest. If personal goals get in the way, history will not be kind to them,” he warned.
He also called for urgent steps, saying, “Nigerians are tired of excuses they demand results. Should the opposition fall short, Tinubu’s continued presidency will be their responsibility.
