The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have alleged that a coordinated misinformation campaign is underway, aimed at shaping international perception ahead of the upcoming October 10, 2025, court ruling concerning their leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement released on Friday by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group accused unnamed actors of intentionally downplaying or ignoring favorable developments regarding Kanu’s case.

The movement claimed that a wave of unfavorable narratives was being spread with the intention of tarnishing Kanu’s image and swaying public opinion before the scheduled verdict.

According to the statement, this strategy is being employed specifically to manipulate global sentiment prior to the ruling by Justice James Omotosho at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The group emphasized that efforts are being made to mentally prepare the international audience for the outcome of the trial.

“Reports that vindicate our leader are deliberately suppressed,” the statement by Emma Powerful said.

IPOB also pointed to previous instances where, according to them, Nnamdi Kanu’s character and motives had been misrepresented, particularly recalling events that led up to his 2021 detention.

The group maintained that these persistent misrepresentations are laying the foundation for what they believe is a “pre-arranged judgment” already determined against their leader.

They further urged bodies such as the United Nations, the United States Congress, the Human Rights Council, and global media to recognize and respond to what they referred to as an alarming development. IPOB asserted that those involved in this manipulation would ultimately be judged by history.

In a separate development, self-acclaimed Biafra prime minister, Simon Ekpa, was recently sentenced by Finnish authorities.

Reacting to this, IPOB distanced itself from Ekpa, stating that his legal troubles are his own and have no bearing on the organization.

The group reiterated that it holds no association with the actions or agenda of the Finland-based activist.
