Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has rewarded three outstanding students of Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences, Ilese-Ijebu, with a cash gift of N2.5 million each. The recipients, Famuyewa Aminat, Rasak Temilola, and Kanyinsola Salami, were recognised for their academic excellence at the institution’s 3rd combined convocation ceremony.
Abiodun, represented by his special adviser on secondary education, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, announced the reward, stating that it’s part of the administration’s drive to create a conducive environment for intellectual growth and excellence.
“The state government’s commitment to continue to invest further in the education sector while ensuring that students and institutions have the necessary resources to excel remains sacrosanct,” Abiodun said. “Education is the bedrock of any society, and we will continue to ensure that our students have access to quality education. The rewarding of these outstanding students today is a reflection of our commitment to nurturing the leaders of tomorrow.”
The governor urged the graduating students to revolutionise the health sector with qualitative services that will impact the well-being of the nation.
Dr. Rasaki Akinbo, the Rector of the institution, expressed gratitude to the governor for his support, highlighting the institution’s transformative growth since its upgrade to a polytechnic in 2023. Akinbo noted that the institution has witnessed significant development, with 11 new programs accredited and five re-accredited existing courses.
The Chairman of the Governing Council, Kunle Kakejaiye, appealed for further state government intervention in the institution’s infrastructural development, calling for the urgent tarring of internal roads and additional funding.
Kakejaiye emphasised the importance of infrastructure development, saying, “We need the state government’s intervention to tar our internal roads, which are in a deplorable state. We also need additional funding to support our growth and development plans.”
The convocation ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including the institution’s management, staff, and students, as well as representatives from the state government and other stakeholders.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Akinbo thanked the governor, the state government, and all stakeholders for their support, saying, “We are grateful for the support we have received so far, and we look forward to continued collaboration and partnership in the years ahead.”
The ceremony ended with the presentation of awards to the outstanding students and the official closing of the 3rd combined convocation ceremony of Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences, Ilese-Ijebu.
