Oil firm donates life-saving medical equipment to RSUTH, enhancing critical care services

Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited has donated seven multi-million naira worth of medical equipment and drugs to the Intensive Care Unit of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) in Port Harcourt. The donation includes four VG70 Aeonmed ventilators, a laser therapy machine, an automated external defibrillator, a 7A-23D electronic suction apparatus, and essential pharmaceuticals.

The company’s general manager of relations and sustainable development, Mr. Igo Weli, said the donation aimed to strengthen the hospital’s capacity to handle critical care. “The demand for critical care has far outpaced the hospital’s equipment capacity, often forcing clinicians into difficult ethical decisions—choosing which patient receives ventilation support and which patient must wait, sometimes with life-threatening consequences,” Weli noted.

He added, “This donation aims to relieve the burden on RSUTH’s ICU, enhance critical care services, and ensure that no patient is denied the life-saving support they urgently require.” We commended the management and staff of RSUTH for their commitment to excellence in healthcare and education and urged them to ensure proper utilization of the equipment

The Chief Medical Director of RSUTH, Prof. Chizindu Alikor, thanked the company for the donation, saying it came at a crucial time. “Your thoughtful support has come at a crucial time, and we believe it will undoubtedly strengthen our capacity to provide quality care, including life-saving medical procedures, especially in the context of critical care to the people of Rivers State and beyond,” Alikor said.

Weli urged the hospital management and healthcare professionals to ensure proper utilisation and proactive maintenance of the equipment, build the capacity of medical staff, and promote collaboration with other institutions to improve critical care services in the region. “At Renaissance, we are committed to supporting excellence,” he said.

The donation is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiative, aimed at improving healthcare delivery in the region. The hospital has been facing challenges in providing critical care services due to limited equipment capacity, and the donation is expected to bridge this gap
