Only Jonathan can defeat Tinubu – Adeyanju mocks Peter Obi

Human rights advocate and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has stated that the former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, would not receive votes even if he were to swear an oath in a shrine to serve only one term as president.

Adeyanju made this comment while asserting that the only Southerner capable of defeating President Bola Tinubu is former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Recently, Obi expressed his willingness to serve as president for a single term before transferring power to the North.

Obi, along with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, are considered leading candidates for the coalition’s presidential nomination.

However, none of the three have officially announced their intentions to run.

Adeyanju also mentioned that Northerners are unlikely to trust Obi to honor any agreement to serve just one term.

In an interview on Arise Television, Adeyanju said: “I have said it publicly and I want to reiterate it that even if a Southerner were to contest, the only person who stands the chance of defeating Tinubu is Goodluck Jonathan.

“And this is because he just has only one more term. And as for Obi, it’s not a thing of agreement.

“Even if he swears in a shrine, they will not believe him and they will not vote for him.

“I don’t see any Southerner candidate that can defeat Bola Tinubu, I don’t see.

“But if Atiku steps down he could support a younger Northerner, support somebody else.

“The idea that it must always be me, it does not have to always be you on the stage, you can be off the stage and be supporting somebody that is standing on the stage.”
