Orji Kalu hails New Ohanaeze President-General, Mbata

Orji Uzor Kalu, a former governor of Abia State and senator for the Abia North Senatorial District, has congratulated Senator John Azuta-Mbata on his appointment as Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide’s president-general.

Azuta-Mbata was unanimously nominated for the post by Rivers State delegates at the election, which took place on Friday at the Old Government Lodge in Enugu. His rise comes when Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who represented Imo State, passed away and the position was reassigned to Rivers State.

At a critical juncture for the leading Igbo socio-cultural organization, Azuta-Mbata, the first Ikwerre native to hold the position of Senator for Rivers East under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during Nigeria’s Fourth Republic, takes over as head.

Additionally, he is the first native of Rivers State to lead Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

On Sunday, Kalu, the National Assembly representative for the Abia North Senatorial District, said he is sure that Senator Azuta-Mbata will contribute his extensive expertise to the position.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to you, Senator John Azuta-Mbata, on your emergence as the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide.

“Over the years, you have established yourself as a distinguished businessman, politician, and statesman, serving Rivers State and Nigeria with excellence and dedication.

“I am confident that your wealth of experience and expertise will greatly benefit this role. There is no doubt that you possess the necessary credentials to champion the cause of Ndi Igbo and strategically position the Igbo people within the complexities of today’s Nigerian politics.

“Please know that I remain fully committed to supporting you as we move forward together.”
