Osun 2026: Ex-Buhari’s aide, Omoworare joins governorship race

Senator Babajide Omoworare, a former Senior Special Assistant to former President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters, has officially announced his plan to run for governor of Osun State in 2026.

On Monday, Omoworare, who is running under the All Progressives Congress (APC) banner, gave the party’s leadership his manifesto and declared his intention to bring the party back to power in the state.

At a meeting with Tajudeen Lawal, the state chairman of the APC, and other party officials, the former congressman emphasized his unwavering electoral record and boasted of an uninterrupted run of wins.

“I have contested five elections and have never been defeated. Even when attempts were made to rig me out, I pursued justice through the courts and prevailed. By the grace of God, I am a five-star general in politics,” Omoworare stated.

He criticized Osun’s current infrastructure and governance, pointing to statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics that shows the state has the lowest food inflation index in the South-West.

Omoworare mentioned prominent Yoruba political family members when he claimed to have extensive political origins.

“I am a thoroughbred progressive. My great-grandfather was an ‘Afenifere’, and my maternal grandfather, the Ooni of Ife, served as the first governor of the Western Region. Politics runs in my veins. The PDP didn’t win Osun; the APC lost it. But we won’t lose again. I’m here to help us reset and rebuild.”

In his remarks, APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal expressed optimism about the party’s chances in the upcoming election cycle and characterized Omoworare as an experienced politician and a committed progressive.
