An alleged attack on Egbedi town in the Egbedore local government area has been denounced by the All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Osun State.

In a statement released by its Director of Media and Information Kola Olabisi, the Osun APC claimed that Oriade Kazeem, an adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke, was the attack’s leader.

The statement said, “Armed men invaded Egbedi last Thursday, leaving several residents injured.

“The attackers, allegedly led by Oriade Kazeem, a Senior Special Assistant to the governor, were said to have used guns, cutlasses, and other weapons during the assault, which reportedly stemmed from a land and chieftaincy dispute.”

The claimed involvement of a government official in the incident was criticized by the APC, saying, “It is deeply disturbing to see an appointee of the governor brandishing weapons and terrorising innocent citizens.”

The party also questioned the legitimacy of Oriade Kazeem’s alleged gun use and charged that Governor Adeleke’s administration was encouraging a culture of impunity.

The Egbedi event, according to the opposition party, confirmed earlier concerns about an increase in violence under the current government.

The state government’s efforts to look into the incident were likewise rejected by the party as a formality.

“No report from past investigations has ever seen the light of the day,” the party said.

The APC urged Adeleke to put the safety of the populace first and to act quickly and forcefully to stop the increasing violence.

“The governor’s duty is to protect lives and property, not subject people to attacks and killings,” the statement concluded.

Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered a swift investigation into violent skirmishes in Egbedi town, according to ZINGTIE.

Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke’s spokesperson, gave citizens reassurance on Saturday over the town government’s dedication to preserving life and property.

Meanwhile, Oba Muideen Azeez, the traditional ruler of Egbedi, has, in the meantime, made a plea to the federal government for help and security for his people.

Chief Ajiroba Yisa Abayomi and Prince Abioye were among the people attacked, according to Oba Azeez, while six other locals were injured and sent to the hospital.

He voiced worries about the community’s safety following the bloody invasion.

“The lives and property of my subjects are at risk. We need urgent assistance to prevent further violence,” the monarch said.
