Governor Ademola Adeleke reportedly sobbed for fifteen minutes prior to a cabinet meeting over the weekend, which precipitated a dramatic turn in Osun State’s protracted local government crisis, according to ZINGTIE.

During a recent meeting with State Executive Council members, Eluwole revealed that the governor was in a profound state of sorrow. He revealed that Governor Adeleke sobbed uncontrollably for almost fifteen minutes and was unable to start the discussion until he was comforted.

Dipo Eluwole, the Osun State Commissioner for Education, made the disclosure at a teacher training on digital literacy in Ede.

“On Saturday, Mr Governor wept for 15 minutes before he could start a meeting, 15 minutes! They were pacifying him,” Eluwole stated.

The legal dispute between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) for control of the state’s local governments was the root cause of the crisis.

The PDP is still contesting the Court of Appeal’s decision to reinstall APC-elected local government officials who had been ousted by a Federal High Court order in Osogbo.

Since February 2025, the federal government has denied Osun State local government allocations due to the court battle.

The state government is now facing severe financial limitations, which have an impact on a number of areas, including local government, healthcare, and education.

The impasse’s effects on state growth, especially in the field of education, were bemoaned by the Education Commissioner.

He said, “If not for what is happening since February till now, we would have seen many provisions in the schools by now. It is in the pipeline.”

He pointed out that in order to pay primary school teachers, local government employees, medical professionals, and traditional leaders, the state government had to take money intended for infrastructure and development.

Even traditional rulers have been driven to tears, the commissioner added, describing the emotional climate in government circles.

“Everybody is taking their money as at when due. That is why we don’t have more teachers in schools.

“A traditional ruler wept recently because of the situation. There is a serious problem at hand,” he remarked.

In a similar development, Senator Iyiola Omisore, the former deputy governor of Osun State, has listed particular requirements Governor Adeleke must fulfill in order to join the APC.

Following rumors that Adeleke is considering defecting from the PDP to the APC in advance of the 2026 gubernatorial race, Omisore made these remarks.

Omisore stated that Adeleke’s attempt to join the APC could not be accomplished through political connections outside the state in a television interview that was watched on Wednesday.

The former senator emphasized that if Adeleke is genuine about joining the APC, he must do so from the bottom up.

“You cannot be meeting Governor Dapo Abiodun to anchor you into our party. Politics is very local. If he must join us, he has to start from the grassroots,” he added.

Accusing the governor of being driven by concerns about reelection, Omisore said, “Adeleke is only scared of losing the second term bid, which is why he is seeking to contest under the platform of the APC.”

However, he cautioned that appropriate political procedures must be followed while acknowledging Adeleke’s constitutional right to freedom of association.

“I’m not saying Adeleke cannot join the party. He has the constitutional right to associate with any party,” Omisore said.
