Otu only has brigandage to show for 2 years in office – Cross River PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the main opposition party in Cross River State, has said that Governor Bassey Otu’s administration is encouraging brigandage throughout the state by utilizing fictitious revenue collectors.

According to Mr. Venatius Ikem, the state’s PDP chairman, the army of tax agents who purportedly extort money from citizens, drivers, and business owners using physical force has unleashed what he called terrorism on the populace.

Ikem stated that the amount of brigandage by the government’s revenue agents has become obvious and intolerable when appearing on the “Peoples Opinion” show on FAD FM radio on Wednesday.

“These so-called revenue agents are the ‘area boys’ they used during elections and have assigned them revenue points as a way of ‘settling’ them.

“These boys are now masquerading as revenue collectors, going about terrorising citizens and traders brazenly,” the PDP chairman said.

Ikem claims that Governor Otu has accomplished nothing in his two years in office.

He claimed that there is massive resource waste and corruption.

Additionally, he claimed that Otu has not bothered to activate any of the ostensibly beneficial programs that his predecessor, Prof. Ben Ayade, had clumsily started.

The opposition party boss maintained, “There’s absolutely nothing noteworthy or attractive that APC government has given to Cross River State. The activities of the APC administration oscillate around cleaning parts of Calabar.”

Ikem emphasized that the APC cannot infiltrate Cross River North and denied that the party’s strength has been impacted by the defections of some PDP members.

According to him, defectors are just ordinary economic migrants who believe that opportunities are better elsewhere.
