Over 2,000 children benefits from Anti-Malnitrition Initiative in Gombe

The Gombe State Government has launched an initiative to combat acute malnutrition among children by producing complementary anti-malnutrition foods called “Garin Inuwa.” The program aims to distribute these foods to approximately 2,000 affected children across the state.

Deputy Governor Manasseh Daniel Jatau flagged off the distribution, emphasizing the importance of good nutrition for children’s growth and development. He said, “This initiative is a step towards eradicating malnutrition among children in the state.”

The Deputy Governor also charged women to learn how to produce complementary foods, not only to feed their children but also to teach others. He added that the state government is committed to eradicating malnutrition among children

State Commissioner for Education, Aishatu Maigari, explained that the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation produced the complementary foods, while the Ministry of Education trains women and students on how to prepare them. She said, “We have trained 200 women and 300 secondary school students so far on the production of the anti-malnutrition food so that they would collectively help to end child malnutrition in the state.”

This initiative comes after a survey revealed that at least 51% of children in Gombe State suffer from malnutrition and stunting. The government hopes that this program will help address the issue and improve the health and well-being of children in the state.
