Pandemonium in Oyo as thugs attack ex-Deputy Gov’s residence, others

On Saturday, violence erupted in certain areas of Oyo State during local government congresses organized by the faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that supports Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

According to our correspondent, the state has two factions of the PDP. One faction supports the state governor, Seyi Makinde, while the other is aligned with Wike.

The faction led by Wike held its local government congresses on Saturday.

The congresses, however, became violent, resulting in assaults on multiple individuals. Reports indicate that around 25 individuals have sustained injuries.

In several local government areas, vandalism has occurred against properties, such as houses and vehicles.

Attacks have been reported in several local government areas, including Ibadan North, Ido, Ibarapa Central, Akinyele, and Ogbomoso North.

It was reported by our correspondent that the residence of Barrister Hazim Gbolarumi, a former state governor, has been attacked. The residence is situated in Bodija within the Ibadan North local government area.

It was learned that properties valued at millions of naira were damaged in the building.

On Saturday afternoon, Professor Abdulrahman Akinoso, who chairs the Wike-led faction of the PDP in Oyo, verified the assaults to ZINGTIE.

Akinoso observed that thugs are circulating to instill fear in the populace.

“There may be a need to upgrade the damages. More than 25 vehicles have been reported damaged. They are moving round the local governments, attacking individuals at home. Buildings were damaged,” he said.

When contacted, Olayinka Ayanlade, the Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, confirmed the incident to ZINGTIE on Saturday.

He stated that the police is handling the issue.

“It is an internal affair of a political party. It did not happen at the congress. It is outside the congress venues.

“We received a report of the attack on the residence of a former governor of the state. CP has ordered for the arrest of the hoodlums. We are on top of the matter,” the police spokesman said.
