There was no formal agreement for former President Muhammadu Buhari to cede power to him, according to Pastor Tunde Bakare, General Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, CGCC.
Buhari served from 2015 until 2023. From 1983 until 1985, he served as the military’s head of state.
Bakare implied that Buhari would have favored him as his successor when he spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday.
Bakare said, “There was no written pact between us.
“He’s late. I will never say anything unfair about him.
“But there was a kind of look — ’you’re one of those I would love to succeed me’ — and he did his best.”
Bakare further disclosed that Buhari encouraged all presidential candidates to freely select their successors in a meeting he called prior to the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries.
According to Bakare, Buhari said: “I have allowed governors to choose those who will succeed them or go for a second term.
“I’m asking you today to freely choose the person I desire to succeed me.”
