PDP crisis: Saraki gives fresh details after meeting Gov Makinde

In the midst of the PDP’s leadership turmoil, former Senate President Bukola Saraki met with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

Saraki and Makinde’s meeting is a step toward resolving the PDP’s problem and bringing all resentful members together.

Saraki wrote on X that he hoped PDP leaders would unite and adopt a unified stance.

He wrote: “Thank you, Your Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde, for making time to meet with us today—even though it coincided with your wife’s birthday. Warm wishes to Her Excellency Mrs. Tamunominini Makinde.

“Following today’s meeting, we remain cautiously optimistic as we forge ahead to secure a common position among the leadership of our great party.

“I’m currently in Oyo State with Governor Dankwambo, meeting with Governor Seyi Makinde, as part of our committee’s ongoing efforts.”

In an attempt to resolve the party’s dilemma, the former Senate president has been meeting with some party leaders recently.

The PDP’s crisis started in 2022 because of a dispute over the zoning system.

The party’s zoning scheme has been criticized by several party leaders, including Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and his G-5 group, which includes Makinde.

Since Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman at the time, was from the North, they wanted the PDP to zone its presidential ticket to the South.

Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president, became the PDP’s flag bearer because the party insisted on limiting its presidential ticket to the North.
