Associate Professor Augustine Nwazunku, a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, has passed away.
Nwazunku, who contested as a governorship candidate under the PDP in the 2023 general elections, was also a Consultant and Associate Professor of Environmental Health at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, until his death.
His passing was confirmed in a statement released on Thursday by Senator Paulinus Igwe Nwagu, the PDP Deputy Governorship candidate in the 2023 elections.
The statement revealed that the party has suspended all planned activities as a mark of respect for the deceased.
The statement read, “Good morning PDP family, particularly the state chapter, “On behalf of our leader, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, and the entire Ebonyi PDP, we hereby inform you that we have again lost one of us— a leader and dependable member and former Caretaker Chairman of our party in Ebonyi State— Associate Professor Augustine Nwazunku.”
To honor his memory, the party has called off all meetings and events scheduled for Saturday, June 28, 2025.
Members are also invited to assemble at Aristocrat Hotel on Ezza Road for a procession to the late professor’s family residence for a condolence visit.
