The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State recently held an expanded caucus meeting in Zaki-Biam with the aim of strengthening the party and devising new strategies to reclaim power in the 2027 elections.
At the gathering, Abraham Waroh, PDP Zonal Chairman for Zone A, expressed gratitude for the large turnout of party supporters in Ukum.
He encouraged the attendees to maintain their loyalty to the PDP, noting that the party had resolved previous internal conflicts and was now better positioned for future electoral successes.
Waroh criticized the administration led by Alia for neglecting Ukum, despite the strong support he received from the area during his 2023 governorship campaign.
He highlighted that this neglect had significantly set back the once thriving agricultural community of Ukum.
Waroh advised the people of Ukum to reject the coalition, labeling it as a group driven by selfish individuals who believe they must always hold leadership roles.
He pointed out that although many coalition members took leadership positions in their late 20s and early 30s, their motivation for joining the ADC stems from frustration over the PDP’s inclusion of youth in leadership roles.
Clement Mue, the party’s National Ex-officio, described the PDP as the only political organization capable of addressing the nation’s security and economic problems.
He referred to defectors as “corporate raiders” and predicted the coalition would collapse naturally within six months.
On the other hand, Prof. Tersoo Kpelai shared a spiritual insight, urging the people of Ukum not to be misled and to keep their focus on the PDP.
Benjamin Shiaondo Ngugarna welcomed the departure of individuals he identified as opponents of fairness, equity, and justice in Ukum.
Dr. Sylvester Atachin, through Prince Tyodoo, stated that those leaving for the coalition had already benefited extensively from the PDP and were only departing because they had exhausted all available positions within the party.
Several clan representatives—Elder Tswam Apetimin, Hon. Iorsoo Nyako, Elder Ikwe Jinawa, and Joseph Nengean Barrington, speaking for Ucha, Ngenev, Mbaterem, and Torov clans respectively—expressed strong confidence in the party’s state leader, former Governor Samuel Ortom.
They praised Ortom for his continuous support of Ukum natives during his tenure and even after leaving office, citing recent appointments such as Barrister Clement Mue as PDP National Ex-Officio and Abraham Waroh as the Zonal Chairman for Zone A.
They noted that Chief Ortom’s backing marked a historic first for the PDP in Ukum and the entire Sankera region.
The party, through Local Government Chairman Terdoo Gusa, Women Leader Ruth Hembadoon Aernyi, and Youth Leader Bem Gusa, unanimously adopted a motion endorsing the leadership of the immediate past Governor and the Ezekiel Adaji-led State Working Committee (SWC).
