Rita Daniels, a seasoned Nollywood actress and politician, has abruptly resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), putting the party on the verge of yet another defection.
Daniels, a former prominent leader in the PDP’s Delta State chapter, has stated unequivocally that the party’s internal rot is irreversible.
Her announcement on Monday, February 3, accompanied with images from her term and resignation post, was more than simply a political statement; it was a clear warning about the PDP’s shaky basis.
Rita, who was selected as the PDP’s State Assistant Treasurer in Delta State in 2020, was unreservedly critical of the party.
She accused the PDP of subverting democratic processes, claiming that those in power had infringed on the constitution’s provisions for justice, equity, and good governance.
Rita claimed that after she announced her resignation, the PDP in Aniocha South Ward One retaliated by suspending her indefinitely, accusing her of anti-party activity.
According to Daniels, Ward Chairman John Nwona warned her that a committee had already been constituted to investigate her behaviour and determine whether she should be booted from the party entirely.
