The Niger State Government and the victims of the flood calamity in Mokwa have received sympathy from Mr. Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State.

On behalf of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba welcomed Obi and his entourage to the state during a condolence visit to the government house in Minna.

According to him, ” Whatever affects Niger State, affects the entire nation. This is, considering its comparative advantage in agriculture, the state is capable of changing Nigeria for good.”

As a natural calamity that can only be controlled, Obi also recommended that other approaches be looked into to lessen the impact of the recurrent flood disaster. He also pledged to increase support for the victims.

The LP candidate for president prayed for the deceased’s souls to rest in peace and for God to grant their families and the entire Mokwa local government region peace.

In his response, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru called the flood calamity “a national catastrophe” through his deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba.

He expressed gratitude to Obi for the visit and that it was an honor for the state.

Bago promised that his government would keep up its efforts to reduce the frequency of floods and to raise awareness among the public about the need to avoid riverbanks.

The governor also restated his appeal for both domestic and foreign assistance to lessen the victims’ suffering.
