Dayo Ekong, the chairperson of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State, has stated that Mr. Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate in the general elections of 2023, is losing political clout and has been urged to take a moment to think.
Ekong made this claim in a statement released on Tuesday on her official X handle, adding that party structures, grassroots mobilization, and the general public’s thirst for change all contributed to Obi’s increased prominence in 2023.
She restated that Obi’s polarizing decisions and erratic political maneuvers are now causing the “grace” that surrounded him back then to fade.
“In 2023, Nigerians rallied behind him because he represented a fresh alternative.
“But today, his actions are beginning to erode the foundation of that support,” Ekong wrote.
The chairperson of the Lagos LP also brought up the Edo gubernatorial election of 2024, in which Obi backed LP candidate Olumide Akpata against the wishes of party elders.
