A man from Jigawa State was arrested in Jos, Plateau State, on suspicion of trying to murder a young woman in a hotel room for ritualistic reasons.

The startling event took place at a hotel in the Gadabiyu axis of Plateau State’s Jos North Local Government Area on Friday, February 21, 2025.

Reports state that the incident escalated into violence after the victim went to the hotel to hook up with the suspect.

Concerns regarding the safety of young women in the city were raised after Sarah Nankyer Danjuma, a Facebook user, disclosed the occurrence.

She wrote: URGENT SAFETY ALERT FOR JOS GIRLS:

“A disturbing incident occurred today in Jos, Plateau State, where a girl was nearly killed in a hotel room around Gadabiyu, after a hook-up went horribly wrong. Which she raised alarm shouting saying, ‘help me, he will kill me!’.”

“And the hotel staff came out and rescue her, and she was stabbed with a knife on her neck. The guy is arrested from Jigawa State.”

“We urge all girls in Jos to EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION when engaging in hook-ups or meeting strangers. Prioritize your safety! If you or someone you know needs help or support, please reach out to local authorities or trusted organisations. May Almighty God continue to safe & protect us from the hands of the evil ones. Amen. Stay safe, our Jos girls”.

“The suspect was quickly apprehended and handed over to the police, while the victim received medical attention.”

“Although, the exact motive of the attack remains unclear, however, there are concerns that it may have been an attempted ritual killing.”

“The incident has sparked discussions about the risks associated with meeting strangers and the need for increased vigilance in such encounters.”

“As at the time of filing this report, no official statement has been released by the authorities, but Investigations are ongoing.”
