The Kwara State Police Command has apprehended 46 individuals suspected of being involved in banditry, as part of ongoing security crackdowns across the state.

Authorities revealed that the suspects are currently undergoing profiling by relevant security agencies. This move follows an extended period of surveillance targeting regions known for recurring violence and abductions.

Police officials confirmed that the arrests took place on Thursday when the suspects were spotted riding motorcycles near the Babanla area in Ifelodun Local Government. They were subsequently escorted under heavy security to the command headquarters in Ilorin, transported in a white Coaster bus.

The Babanla community has recently become a focal point of concern due to repeated attacks by armed groups, which have resulted in fatalities and a string of kidnappings. These events have sparked widespread anxiety and prompted a flurry of social media speculation implicating notable individuals.

While addressing the press, Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo dismissed circulating rumors claiming that the traditional ruler of Babanla and his wives were among those arrested.

The speculation gained traction after viral social media posts alleged that the monarch was in custody following the discovery of ₦120 million in suspected ransom funds—₦90 million supposedly seized from his palace and ₦30 million traced to his wife’s bank account. The police chief labeled these claims as baseless.

The story drew sharp reactions, with some commentators praising it as evidence that “no one is above the law.”

But CP Ojo described the report as false, noting that the Oba of Babanla, Oba Aliyu Adegboyega Yusuf, Arojojoye II, remains on his throne and was never arrested.

“You will discover that the story of the Oba of Babanla being in custody was already circulating before myself and other service chiefs visited Babanla community.

“We, together with the governor, met the traditional ruler in his palace. So, presently, I don’t have any traditional ruler in my custody.
