According to the Rivers State Police Command, the individuals who attacked and detonated an explosive device at the Actions People’s Party (APP) state secretariat in Port Harcourt arrived in a car.

Two young guys got out of the car and detonated the device after the command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, made this revelation.

She claims that on August 12, 2024, the command received a distress call about a loud explosion at the APP secretariat, which is situated in Tombia Extension, GRA Phase 2, Port Harcourt.

She claimed that in order to evaluate the situation, the state police commissioner as well as a group of tactical troops led by specialists from the Explosives Ordinance Disposal (EOD/Anti-Bomb) Squad were dispatched right away.

The team started search operations and explosive ordinance disposal procedures after cordoning off the area, the statement continued.

The PPRO stated that the device caused shockwaves and damaged the glass in the windows and doors. The command’s EOD experts found a crater made in front of the structure.

“Eyewitnesses around the time the explosion was heard revealed that a car had been parked a few metres from the APP secretariat and two men had alighted from the car, walked to the building and ignited the suspected device before throwing it at the secretariat. They then re-entered the vehicle and drove off.

“The discovery of a crater and other pieces of evidence, as well as eyewitness accounts, indicate the detonation of an explosive device. Thankfully, no loss of life was recorded, but damage was done to the front of the building.

“Samples from the site of the explosion have been taken for further forensic investigation. Operatives of the command have been detailed to intensify efforts to investigate and apprehend all suspects involved in this incident,” she said.

The PPRO named Mr. Preye Josiah as the main suspect in the explosion that occurred near the Hotel Presidential in Port Harcourt during a demonstration by state residents opposed to Fabara.

She stated that Josiah has been placed on the wanted list by the police and emphasized that he remains hospitalized due to injuries he received when he detonated himself.
