Police uncover illegal maternity home, rescue pregnant women, infants

An illegal maternity home engaged in child trafficking, illegal medical practice, and impersonation has been discovered by Akwa Ibom police officers.

The facility was found in Usung Atiat, Abak Local Government Area, according to a statement released in Uyo on Friday by Timfon John, the state police command spokesperson.

John claims that a female suspect who had been housing seven pregnant women and five infants between the ages of two weeks and one year was apprehended when security personnel conducted a raid on the property on the basis of reliable intelligence.

“Further search led to the recovery of various medical supplies, including syringes, drip lines, herbs, and immunization records, for which the suspect had no legal authorization,” she said.

While investigations are being conducted to find further collaborators and guarantee justice is done, the rescued women are presently in safe care.
