ZINGTIE is aware that the pro-Wike gathering, which was originally scheduled for April 12, was rescheduled to prevent conflicts with other political factions. But now that both gatherings are scheduled for the same day, anxiety about potential confrontations is growing.

George Turnah, the leader of the NEW Associates and the organizer of the pro-Wike march, revealed the new date at a news conference on Friday in Yenagoa.

Turnah clarified that the event, which was initially planned for April 12, had been rescheduled in response to requests from well-known Bayelsans who were concerned that staging several rallies at the same location at the same time may spark violence.

According to Turnah, the purpose of the event is to honor President Bola Tinubu and Wike and to launch the Bayelsa State chapter of the NEW Associates, a grassroots political organization that backs Tinubu’s candidacy for a second term.

“In light of recent developments, we decided to defer our rally to allow others to conduct theirs peacefully. But if they now fix theirs for the same date, then it is clear who is trying to provoke conflict,”Turnah stated.

Following Turnah’s announcement, Kolawole Oredipe, Governor Douye Diri’s media aide, stated on Facebook that the pro-Diri protest, which is intended to demonstrate support for Diri’s administration, had also been rescheduled for April 26.

On behalf of the New Democrats, who back former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, PDP member Egberibin Lucky also announced in a statement that their rally, which was originally scheduled for April 12, will now occur on the same day.

“Following recent developments, the New Democrats rally (Tambuwal mega rally team) earlier scheduled to hold on April 12, has been postponed to April 26, 2025. We regret any inconvenience this change may cause,”the statement read.
