Kemi Badenoch, the head of the Conservative Party, is facing suspicion from both inside and outside of her own party, making the current political climate seem difficult.
Ahead of her 100th day since being elected to party leadership, a startling YouGov poll shows that only 48% of individuals who voted for the Conservatives in the most recent election think she would be a good prime minister, and only 26% think she would lead the United Kingdom. This is despite her efforts to bolster her hardline stance on immigration, which was a pillar of her policy during her leadership tenure, in an attempt to conform to traditional Conservative values.
Badenoch, who was born to Nigerian parents in the UK, has advocated for strict immigration restrictions, including requiring immigrants to live in the country for 15 years before they can become British citizens. “Britain is our home, it’s not a hotel. It’s time to tell the truth on immigration and propose real plans,” she underlined in response to immigration worries.
Her statements highlight the need for significant reforms that strengthen a sense of belonging and commitment to living in the UK, signaling an effort to redefine the Conservative Party’s strategy.
