The authorities of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, have announced the immediate closure of the institution, effective January 13, until further notice.
This decision was made to ensure the safety of lives and property due to ongoing student protests.
The protests were sparked by the management’s decision to verify National Diploma results from students’ former schools.
The Public Relations Officer, Yemi Ajibola, stated that “Management expresses its zero tolerance to fake results from any quarter.”
He further advised students to stay away from the campus, saying, “Consequent upon this, students have been advised to stay away from the campus in their interests, as parents and the public are assured of a timely update as events unfold.”
However, the students are also protesting against other issues, including an alleged increase in tuition fees and delays in mobilizing Higher National Diploma students for the National Youth Service Corps.
The polytechnic’s management is working to resolve the issues, but no reopening date has been announced yet.
