Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi has not bounced back from his devastating 2023 loss, according to Daniel Bwala, President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, who made this statement on Wednesday.

Bwala was responding to Obi’s recent interview in which he criticized Tinubu’s government.

He charged that the previous presidential candidate struggled to portray the opposition but was unable to deliver his message effectively.

Nigeria avoided a bullet by not electing Obi, Bwala wrote in a post on X.

He wrote: “As I listen to @PeterObi this evening struggling to play the opposition (oppose the government) I can’t but shudder at his abysmal delivery.

“He was speaking devoid of facts, logical analysis and almost sounded like a tinkling cymbal or a sounding brass.

“Mr Gregory has still not recovered from the painful defeat of the 2023 polls. But I can understand his confusion because as it stands today, he seem deserted in the banana republic of fantasy, wondering how he will convince his followers about his agreement to play a second fiddle in the 2027 wild goose chase of the opposition Nigeria dodged a bullet.”

Tinubu has been made fun of by Obi for the current state of misery in Nigeria.

He claimed that Tinubu is fulfilling his pledge to Nigerians made during his election campaign to carry on where previous President Muhammadu Buhari left off.

Under Tinubu, the exchange rate rose from N400 to N1,500 per dollar, the former governor of Anambra State recounted.

But according to Obi, a capable leader can change things for Nigerians.

According to Obi: “He (Tinubu) is doing well because what he promised people is exactly what he is doing; that he would start and continue from where the previous government stopped.

“Someone who met the dollar at 300 to 400, and now it is 1,500, he has done fantastic.

“When you talk about improvement, they are no things you say; they are things people feel, they are things people see.

“I have listened to people say jobs are being created—where are the jobs? It’s not the question of saying, ‘Oh, the investors are coming back’; where are they investing?

“What is happening can be turned around with a competent leader who has the capacity and compassion to serve. I would make sure to address Nigerians at least once every month.”
