The claims made by Rabiu Kwankwaso that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has neglected the North have been addressed by the presidency.

The rebuttal was released in a statement on Friday by Sunday Dare, the President’s Special Advisor on Media and Public Communication.

Dare claims that the Tinubu administration is already working on a number of important regional projects and initiatives.

“The claim that Northern Nigeria has been left behind is incorrect. The Tinubu administration has initiated and continued several landmark projects in the North, covering roads, agriculture, healthcare, and energy,” the statement said.

According to Dare, these projects include those related to agriculture, energy, health, and infrastructure.

He cited the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano Gas Pipeline, the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway, and the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Expressway.

Dare emphasized the Kolmani Integrated Development Project in Bauchi and Gombe, as well as a $158.15 million agriculture value chain program spanning nine northern states.

The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project, which seeks to rehabilitate one million hectares of degraded land, is one of the additional interventions, the release said.

The presidential assistant named a number of facilities that would benefit from expansions and additional investments, including the Federal Medical Center in Nguru, the University of Jos Teaching Hospital, and Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Zaria.

Additionally, he saw that roughly 1,000 basic health centers in the North had been revitalized.

The Kano–Kongolam Road, the Kaduna–Jos Road, the Kano–Maiduguri Dual Carriageway, and the restoration of important corridors in Borno and Adamawa states are among the main road projects, Dare added.

He emphasized a few energy initiatives the government has undertaken, citing the Gwagwalada Power Plant, the continuing 614 km Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano Gas Pipeline, and upcoming solar projects in Kaduna.

Additionally, he cited rail projects like the Abuja Metro restoration, the Kaduna–Kano Rail Line, and the Kano–Maradi Rail Line.

This came after Kwankwaso, the New Nigeria Peoples Party’s (NNPP) presidential candidate in the most recent general election, warned that the country’s resources were shifting more and more to the south, which would lead to more poverty and instability in the North.
