Prime suspect Abdulrahman Bello and four other people were placed under remand Tuesday by a Kwara State high court in Ilorin in connection with the alleged murder of Yetunde Lawal, a female final-year student at the College of Education in Ilorin.
After the Department of State Security, DSS, Ilorin, concluded its investigation, the high court ordered their remand at the Oke-Kura detention center.
According to report, the suspects were first placed under custody at the detention center by the Magistrate court, which was presided over by Sanusi Mohammed. However, state security agency agents stormed the facility to remove the suspects for a covert probe.
The five suspects who entered not guilty pleas to the five counts were in the high court on Tuesday. Mr. Moshood Agboola Yusuf represented the third defendant, Suleiman Muhyideen, while Chuwku on probono represented the chief suspect, Abdulrahman Bello.
The prosecution’s chief prosecutor, State Attorney General Senior Ibrahim Suleiman, told the court that the DSS had completed its investigation.
But in an effort to speed up the hearing, the judge mandated that all of the case’s witnesses appear in court.
Justice Hannah Ajayi, the trial judge who issued the order for the suspects to be remanded, postponed the hearing to May 7, 2025.
Abdulrahman Bello is accused of brutally killing Yetunde Lawal in his home in the Olunlade neighborhood of Ilorin, dismembering her body and draining her blood into a bottle.
The other suspects were arrested as a result of the police investigation.
