Grammy Award-winning rapper Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar Cephus, widely known as Cardi B, has been exonerated in a $24 million civil lawsuit after a Los Angeles jury ruled in her favor on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
The lawsuit was brought by Emani Ellis, a former security guard, who accused the rapper of assaulting her during an alleged 2018 altercation outside an obstetrician’s office in Beverly Hills. Ellis, who was working at the medical building at the time, claimed that Cardi B then pregnant had scratched her face, spat on her, and used racial slurs.
Cardi B took the witness stand last week and firmly denied all allegations, maintaining that the encounter was limited to a verbal exchange.
She explained that her frustration was triggered by being filmed without her permission while attending a private prenatal appointment.
Her account was supported by testimonies from clinic staff, including a doctor and a receptionist, who both stated that they witnessed no physical confrontation.
Following less than an hour of jury deliberation, a unanimous verdict was delivered, clearing Cardi B of all charges. Speaking outside the courtroom, she expressed relief over the outcome and emphasized the importance of standing up against baseless accusations.
“Even if I’m on my deathbed, I will say it never happened. I will never admit to something I did not do” She told reporters.
