Adolphus Wabara, the former president of the Nigerian Senate, was reportedly refused a job placement since the request did not fall under the purview of the Federal Character Commission’s jurisdiction.

This declaration addresses Wabara’s recent allegations that the FCC turned down requests for jobs for residents of his district because he refused to pay bribes.

The former legislator had claimed that some FCC employees had obstructed his attempts to get his people jobs because he wouldn’t “drop any money.”

“You won’t believe that up till now nothing has been done for the simple reason that I have not dropped any money and that they cannot even ask me to drop money,” he alleged.

In response to Wabara’s allegations, the FCC’s spokesperson, Dr. Chuks Okoli, made it clear that Wabara was informed during his visit in March 2023 by the organization’s executive chairman, Dr. Muheeba Dankaka, that the commission was not operating as a recruiting agency.

The Commission issued a challenge to Wabara to substantiate his allegations, advising the public to reject his allegations of a “bribe for FCC job slot,” noting that the Executive Chairman had strictly adhered to the Federal Character standards in the hiring process ever since entering office.

“For this weighty allegation, it will be appreciated if His Excellency, the former Senate President can mention the name(s) of the person(s) that asked him to pay a bribe to enable him to secure FCC job slots for his children and grandchildren or substantiate his allegation.

“The general public is hereby asked and encouraged to disregard this unsubstantiated allegation of ‘bribe for FCC Job slot’ made by former distinguished Senator Adolphus Wabara.

“The Executive Chairman, since she assumed office, has been very strict in the application of Federal Character principle in staff recruitment by the MDAs.”
