Rivers crisis: Fubara reveals the worst thing that can happen to him

Rivers State’s governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has stated that he is not worried about how the state’s protracted political situation will turn out.

Fubara said this on Monday at the opening of Government House employees’ living quarters in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.

The governor claimed that the worst thing that could happen to him would be his resignation. He also mentioned that every time his administration tries to establish stability, problems occur and the state is forced to start over.

Despite the political unrest, he praised the people of Rivers State for supporting his administration.

“No matter how much we have been deceived in this state, we have now reached a point where the people have decided to take their destiny into their own hands.

“Inasmuch as I do not support violence, when the time comes to make a decision, I will lead the charge.

“I’m not scared of anything; the worst that can happen is for me to leave office. Am I leaving the earth? Will it stop me from existing? I’m not bothered about that. The right thing must be done and said when the opportunity is given to us,” Fubara said.

According to the ZINGTIE, Rivers State has been engulfed in political unrest for more than two years as a result of the disagreement between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, or FCT.

The Rivers State House of Assembly is currently divided into two factions as a result of the issue.

The Federal High Court’s decision prohibiting the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant-General of the Federation from disbursing statutory monthly allocations to Rivers State was maintained by the Supreme Court last Friday.

The highest court also mandated that the Rivers State House of Assembly’s Martins Amaewhule-led group and other elected members immediately return to their seats.

Additionally, the Supreme Court ruled that the local government elections that were held in Rivers State on October 5, 2024, were unconstitutional and void.

Many people believe that the Wike-led faction in the ongoing dispute has a political edge thanks to these verdicts.
