Rivers crisis: My decision to accept Tinubu’s peace deal not out of fear – Fubara

In the midst of the ongoing conflict with Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara had stated that he did not act out of fear when he accepted the peace agreement mediated by President Bola Tinubu.

According to Fubara, the choice was made to guarantee that the state was at peace.

According to a statement from his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Boniface Onyedi, he delivered a speech at the first state banquet hosted by his government at Government House, Port Harcourt.

According to Fubara, his administration will not become involved in any shady political conflicts that would jeopardise the state’s bright future development possibilities.

He said, “Every decision that we’ve taken is not borne out of fear but because we have the interest of our people and we have respect for elders.

“I’m appealing to every one of us to embrace peace. We need this peace because our intention for the state is not for our interest but that of the development of the state.”

Wike and Fubara have been at odds over Rivers State’s political structure.

Following the confrontation, a few state assembly members defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), and a few commissioners resigned.

In order to prevent the situation from worsening, President Bola Tinubu persuaded the two to sign a peace accord.

Fubara was chastised, nevertheless, for signing the peace agreement since he felt that some of its stipulations did not favour him.
