President Bola Tinubu has brought together the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, and members of the State House of Assembly in a reconciliatory effort.

The resolution of the ongoing political rift was achieved during a meeting held late last night at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where Tinubu met with the involved parties.

This gathering followed an earlier session involving Fubara, Wike, and the legislators.

The outcome of the discussions was confirmed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who shared details on his X account on Friday.

Onanuga noted that Tinubu had shown a strong desire to restore calm in Rivers State.

He said: “Rivers’ peace talks in pictures:

“President Tinubu has demonstrated once again that he wants peace for Rivers State. Just like he brought together the political gladiators to sign a peace deal in December 2023, he repeated the same on Thursday night, three months after he imposed the March 18 state of emergency.

“FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and House Speaker Martins Chike Amaewhule all took part in the peace talks at the Villa.”

A source had earlier informed reporters that the meeting with the President is to intimate him that the crisis has been resolved.

“From the body language after the meeting with the President I can tell you that they (Wike, Fubara and the Lawmakers) have resolved their differences,” he said.

The dispute between Wike and Fubara has revolved around political control in Rivers State.

On March 18, the President announced a State of Emergency in the state, citing threats to public safety and security.

As part of the emergency measures, Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy, Mrs. Ngozi Odu, along with all members of the State House of Assembly.

He also appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas as Administrator to oversee governance in the state.
