The prosecution of 32-year-old Timilehin Ajayi, who is suspected of killing 24-year-old corps member Salome Adaidu, has formally been transferred to the Nasarawa State Government.
In a letter to the Commissioner of Police on Friday, March 7, 2025, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Barrister Hauwa Samuel Jugbo made the announcement.
She referenced Nigerian Constitutional Section 211(1), which gives her office the authority to take charge of criminal cases.
The letter states that Barrister Jugbo would oversee a committed group of attorneys from her chambers to manage the matter.
In order to take further action, she also asked the police to send all pertinent records and proof to her office.
Before Justice Simon Aboki of the Nasarawa State High Court in Lafia, the suspect, Timilehin Ajayi, had entered a not guilty plea to the charge of culpable homicide.
If proven guilty, the case, which was brought under Section 221 of the Northern Nigerian Penal Code, carries a death sentence.
Salome Adaidu was killed by Ajayi, according to the prosecution, when she went to his home in the Papalana neighborhood of New Karshi, which is located in the Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The case will recommence from March 17 to March 20, 2025, after being postponed for an expedited hearing.
