Bukola Saraki, the former Senate President, has rejected allegations that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu betrayed him during Muhammadu Buhari’s presidency.

While appearing on Politics Today, a program on Channels Television that ZINGTIE monitored, Saraki clarified this point.

When asked if Tinubu was involved in the political and legal challenges he faced as Senate President, Saraki responded that it would be unjust to hold the current president responsible.

He claimed that Tinubu’s actual level of influence within Buhari’s government was less than what many believed, and that he was not part of the decision-making regarding the trials Tinubu faced at that time.

“That’s not fair on President Tinubu. During former President Buhari’s administration, Tinubu didn’t have the say that they claimed he had,” Saraki said.

He clarified that the choices resulting in his prosecution at the Code of Conduct Tribunal and the inquiries related to the Offa robbery were not swayed by Tinubu.

Saraki noted that during his tenure as Senate President, he focused on actions he deemed beneficial for the country, despite those actions subsequently resulting in political persecution.

“I was doing what I felt was in the interest of the country as the President of the Senate, and for doing those things I was then persecuted,” he said.

He emphasized again that Tinubu was not one of those who began or carried out the actions that led to the trial by the Code of Conduct Bureau or other accusations made against him during that time.
