Ahead of the general elections in 2027, Henry Eluwa, the chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Imo State, has said that the party will not create any kind of partnership with other political parties.
He made a suggestion that the SDP would do everything in its power to preserve and defend its identity and would never consent to a merger that would destroy the party’s core beliefs.
In a news release, Eluwa said that the State Chapter of the party fully supports the national decision made by Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, who, in his words, has made it plain that the party must preserve its identity.
He asserted that the party will only back and encourage legitimate leadership, pointing out that any kind of merger will only exacerbate the issue the country is attempting to resolve.
“Those who believe in our vision, like Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai and Major Hamza Al-Mustapha and others, have joined us without conditions and that’s the spirit we uphold.
“SDP is here to stay, and by the will of Allah, we will present a credible candidate that Nigerians across all divides can rally behind in 2027.
“The movement is growing, and so is the hope for a better Nigeria.
“We will never collapse into any coalition or merger. We are firmly committed to maintaining our identity, values and national outlook,” the press release stated.
