In Warri, Delta State, a 34-year-old mother named Victory Okpako gave birth to a set of quadruplets.

The woman, who before now is a mother of a nine-year-old son, delivered the infants at Shepherd facility & Fertility Centre, a private facility in Edjeba Community, on October 1, Nigeria’s Independence Day.

According to ZINGTIE, the four infants are doing well and are currently in the hospital’s incubator.

Mrs. Okpako expressed worry that she wouldn’t be able to afford the medical bills associated with her own discharge as well as those of the four infants.

She brought up the fact that her business husband, who is homeless, is trying to raise money but hasn’t received a single penny.

She stated that even though they haven’t received the entire amount, they spend N200,000 every day to take care of the babies, aside from the original bill that will come.

“We are looking for the money to take care of them,” she said, expressing her gladness at the babies’ birth.

Owner of a pharmacy and cosmetics store, Okpako made a financial appeal to non-governmental organisations, the public, and the Delta State government for help in caring for the kids.

“Anybody, government and non-governmental organisations can help me. They should please do, because I need these children. I don’t want them to go just like that. I have suffered for them. They should raise money for me to care for these children.”

Speaking to ZINGTIE about her medical background, Okpako revealed that she was married in 2014 and gave birth to her first kid, a son, in 2015. Sadly, the endeavour to have a second child was unsuccessful because the firstborn passed away.

Doctors eventually discovered that she had developed difficulties and offered that her womb be removed, but she refused. After that, she was unable to conceive until late in 2023, at which point she became pregnant.

However, because of her uterine issues, physicians were not optimistic that she would bring the baby to term after the first ultrasound.

But she gave birth to the four infants safely at Shepherd Hospital Fertility Centre.

When this report was submitted, Mrs. Okpako was still in tears about the hospital discharge plans for the kids.

Dr. Okpara LoveDay, an obstetrician and gynaecologist at the hospital, told ZINGTIE that she was delivered by a group of medical professionals and two nurses to guarantee the quadruplets’ safe delivery.

He added that every day N50,000 is spent on each of the infants.

“She’s not wrong in her calculation, and what she’s asking for—and I hope people come to her aid.

“The babies have not gained the appropriate weight for us to discharge them and she’s still recovering,” he said.
The mother and the babies will be released in the next three to four weeks, the doctor said.

“We have high hopes they’re going to make it,” he said of the babies.

The quadruplet’s father, Mr. Moses Okpako, has not been contacted by phone and is unable to be found as of the time of this report.
